Kidney
& Urinary Infections
Most
kidney disorders reveal themselves through a urinary complaint.
Infection of the urinary tract is an extremely common clinical
problem. The infection may involve the urethra, bladder, ureters
and kidneys. There is difficult, frequent or burning urinations,
often with pain, bleeding or pus in the urine.
Ayurvedic
treatments usually involve specialized diets, herbs and lifestyle
changes. In addition special herbs are given to cleanse and rejuvenate
the kidneys and uro-genital system.
Syphilis
In
the sexual act we bring together the deepest tissue level of our
bodies. This allows reproduction to occur. It can also allow pathogens
to be transmitted directly to our inner most tissues, which would
otherwise be fought off by the immune system. The greater the
number of sexual partners we have, the greater the exposure.
Syphilis
is a serious, sexually transmitted, contagious disease with a
slow development. It may be acquired or inherited. It is usually
acquired through sexual intercourse, however other causes such
as infected blood transfusion are also possible. General debility,
rickets, osteoporosis, and dyspepsia are some of the complications.
Ayurveda believes that sexual diseases result as a consequence
of decreased immunity, which allows the pathogens to exist within
the bodies and cause a number of complications.
Ayurvedic
treatment involves increasing the immunity level, which then allows
the body to naturally kill the pathogens and regenerate damaged
tissues.
Cystitis,
Uretritis & Prostatitis
Urinary
tract infections involve difficult, frequent or burning urination,
sometimes with pain, bleeding or pus in the urine. The infection
of the urinary tract may be confined to the urethra or the bladder.
In these the features of systemic illness are slight and the symptoms
are those like that of dysuria. Scalding pain is felt in the urethra
during urination. Cystitis pain is felt before, during and for
a few moments after voiding urine. In acute prostatitis there
may be considerable systemic disturbance and the patient may complain
of perineal pain.
Ayurveda
describes fourteen types of urinary tract disorders depending
on the aggravated body energies. Ayurvedic regimens normally prevent
surgical interference in these conditions. The line of treatment
involves the removal of infection with internal detoxification,
cleaning and removing any blockages in the urinary tract combined
with herbs to tone the kidneys.
Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea
is an inflammatory disease affecting, especially the mucus membrane
of the urethra in males and the vagina in females. It is highly
infectious and gives rise to a number of complications. It is
directly contagious, especially through sexual intercourse. Gonorrhea
in males is characteristic of thick, creamy, greenish yellow,
purulent discharge. Severe, scalding pain is felt when passing
urine. In females, symptoms begin with a yellow vaginal discharge,
painful urination and often inflammation of the glands close to
the vulva. If not treated, this disorder can develop serious complications.
Renal
Failure
Renal
function may be impaired by disease or drugs that effect the renal
parenchyma, by extra renal disorders such as acute circulatory
failure or as a result of conditions in which there is obstruction
to outflow of urine. The deterioration of kidney function that
ensues may be acute or chronic and of varying degree of severity.
According
to Ayurveda this disease is caused by the blockage of minute body
channels called srotas. The body channels involved in this case,
known as mutravaha srotas, carry urine and are responsible for
the flow of liquid into and out of the kidneys. If there are blockages
in the incoming srotas the kidneys are denied fluids and shrinkage
occurs. However, if the outgoing channels are blocked, swelling
occurs. There are very effective Ayurvedic herbs, such as punanarva
that can clean these channels and reduce swelling and rejuvenate
the kidneys.
Ayurvedic
treatment aims at strengthening the kidneys, restoring its filtration
capacity and general functioning of the kidneys. This line of
treatment can eliminate the need for reliance upon dialysis.
Kidney
Stone
Stones
in the kidneys and urinary tract can be caused by any of the body
energies. According to Ayurveda, excessive phlegm in the urinary
tract is dried out by certain body energies that cause stones
to be formed. Symptoms are sudden colicy pain in the abdomen,
which may spread to the genitals and low back region. Severe perspiration
and nausea may also be present and sometimes blood may be passed
in the urine. Dietary indiscretions are the main causative factor.
Ayurvedic
treatment involves the use of diuretic and stone-dissolving herbs
in acute cases. The system is then cleaned and strengthened using
toning and rejuvenating preparations.
